Whoa! Just peeled out with a 95 auto.

I was coming out of a gas station waiting for traffic to clear when a small opening came up. I floored it to keep up with the speed of traffic. To my surprise the tires peeled for about 1 second. Is this normal for us auto's w/o boost?
By the way it was kind off cold outside.

I can do what you did also, and I have 30 less hp than you and no top end

Cold will cause you to lose traction easier too I believe.

Depends on your rims. When i was auto it was hard to peel out in my heavy 18s.

even more depends on your tires and tire pressure. I peel out all the darn time with the winter tires.

You can peel out in an automatic Geo Metro with 4 200lb people shoved in and the car turned to "Econ" mode.

OK, maybe not 4 people. But 3.

more depends on your tire pressure and type of tires. The winter tires I have peel if I do anything more than 1/4 throttle from a stop.

That makes sense because i've tried a couple times with my aftermarket 17s with no luck. As soon as a I changed over to the stock wheels for winter, i've been chirping almost every time I take off hard.

Looking forward to spring so I can put on some wider tires and STOP doing this. Esp when you are leaning into a corner, the inside tire lifts and you can pretty much smoke 'em any time you want.

It could also be the type of road you're on. Some parts of Dallas have these paved roads that you could lose traction with a bicycle.

(For those in the area, I mean the roads over by Malibu under I35)

Is it the higher the tire pressure the more you will peel out or the less tire pressure. I want to peel out sometimes and never can anymore because of the 18s and I dont know what else.

Higher. Makes your tire "rounder" and less contact patch on the pavement. Converse is if you're stuck in snow/ice/mud, you let some air out of the tire to help you get more low-speed traction and out of the predicament (and of course add the air back when you're free)

I tend to slightly over-inflate my tires anyway for longer wear as the outside edges always seem to go first.

Peeling out is rather useless and wears out your tires.

But if you're going to do it ... at least do it with style:

I used to peel out in my 95 auto often too - but that was mostly due to my cheap worn tires.

Hell yeah dude

Man my Max has TCS so basically if I turn it off I can peel out forever if I wanted,, I cant peel if its on though becuase i have limited slip transmission so it peels for a mili second then it kicks in and stops it.
