Key Code

Hey all,
I did a search on key codes and noticed one thread only, and the problem wasnt solved. I too am having a problem with the key. I had bought a 95 SE and when I went to make a copy of the key, the locksmith said it was too worn to copy. So off to the dealer I went. The dealer said that they could not obtain a keycode on cars over 5 years old. I too was told to look in the glovebox, ashtray and center console, but no keycode was there. Any other ideas on what to do. Besides have all the locks and ignition changed.

Thanks
John

Try Nissan Corp. They usually have all the key codes on the cars they build. You just need proof of ownership and VIN number. That dealer you went to doesn't know what they are talking about. The one out here where I live, obtained a key code for my car when they accidently locked my keys inside. And, my car ('95) was eight years old at the time!

you can try a lock smith.

i watched a lock smith make a key to open my door and ignition.

all he did was put a blan into my door wiggled it around then looked at the key marks and he filled it down. after a few trys he goes into his truck to clean up the key comes back and bam the key works on all locks and ignition.

Go to Wal-Mart, they all have a key making machine that actually does a really good job (takes the human element right out of it)...it'll copy anything. They always have them at the sporting goods desk. I'm extremely confident that you will be all set.

Hi John,

Did it work going through Nissan Corp? I have the same problem. I bought the car with two key (copied on non-nissan balnks) and they are both work. None open the trunk.
If you went through Nissan corp, how did you do it?

Thank you,
Stephane

Hi guys

I am a locksmith the code could be in the owners manuall inside the cover sometimes if not you can pull the PASSAGERS side door pannel and take the lock out its not very hard and you will save yourself 25-75 bucks the locksmith will want to take the lock out it should be on the side of the lock as long as its the original lock if not the locksmith can still make a key from that lock it has 8 of the 10 cuts in the key there then the locksmith should be able to look at the old key and fig out the last 2 cuts.

P.S. try a diffrent locksmith go to a place thats like a mom and pop kind of place take the car with you , the old school locksmiths can normaly copy any key .they may take a piece of paper or something and raise the key up a few mm to get a good copy ,try this 1st as no locksmith in the world would charge you for a key that dont work

Re: Hi guys

Hello Darrick,

Thanks for your reply, would you know what is the difference between the valet key and the ignition key? I have 2 keys that don't open the trunk nor the glove comparment. Can they make the key using the lock from the trunk?

problem solved

Whats up all?
Ok here's the update on my key situation. I tried calling nissan repeatedly and they weren't able to help as you know. The dealer wanted me to replace all my locks and the cylinder, and the locksmith claimed he wasnt able to make a key.
So I went out on a limb and for the heck of it went to home depot to see if they may be able to cut the key. When i spoke to the guy he said the same the locksmith said; that the key was very worn, but he was willing to give it a try. So after the first try i ran out to the car and it didn't work. He fooled around with it a little, making a few more cuts in the same key. After running out to the car 3 times to check it out, the key worked. So i ran back in and had 2 more made.
So all in all i spent a total of $4.50 and a half hour.

But thanks all for he reply and advice.

John
