my sister has a 95 Maxima thats starting to annoy her.i read whan Daniel said about being vague, but i dont really know whats wrong with her car(i have a Z32,not a Maxima)anyway,i have looked through alot of previous messages left trying to see if anyone else is having similar problems.then perhaps i can cure what ails her car.
she says that her keyless entry and clock are malfuntioning.also the lighted visor on the driver isnt working.and she has to reset her radio every time she starts the car.
also, she says that her rpms has on 2 occasions revved up to about 4 grand while driving at 40MPH in 3rd.i told her not to drive the car in stop and go traffic in OD,cuz i feel thats thats why the majority of OD trannies go bad.i may be mistaken but she burned her tranny out in an Accord and mom burned hers out in a Lebaron.any help i can recieve i will greatly appreciate.BTW,mom has a 96 Max.4 Nissan family(i also have the ultimate drifterthe 90 240!)

Has your sisters car ever been in a wreck or had any kind of wiring work done to it? If no, the first thing I would do is remove the battery and have it checked at AutoZone or Pepboys. While you're there, buy a battery terminal cleaner (wire brush type). Beg, borrow or steal a multi-meter (volt-ohm) and check at the battery with the engine running and with it off. You should have around 13.3V running and 12.7V off.

Has the alternator ever been replaced? You may want to check the electrical connections there. While you're at it, check all of the connectors under the hood. Usually just disconnecting and re-connecting will be enough to clean the contacts.

On the OD issue, it will not hurt to leave it engaged all the time. The biggest killer of A/T's is heat. Install a tranny cooler and change to synthetic; life will be so much easier then!
