and back to square one. Have a 96 max 5 speed. About one month ago the odometer/tripometer stopped working (tach and speedometer work fine). About two weeks ago the CEL came on, but it is finding an unrelated problem (0705 EVAP Control Sensor..plenty of info in previous posts). So, is it possible the speed sensor is bad if the CEL does not identify a problem "and" if the speedometer still works? Any ideas or with what may cause just the speedometer/tripometer to not work?

Man, I don't know what to tell you. When my speed sensor went bad, my speedo, odometer, and tripometer quit working. So that was a definite sign that the speed sensor was shot. But in your case, I absolutely have no clue. This may seem repetitive, but have you checked ALL your fuses inside the cabin and in the engine bay? Also, have you taken your cluster out lately? I would take it out and inspect all steel wires on that BACK of the cluster and on the harness.

 

i have the same issue...
it is a problem inside the speedo box i think...
one of the gears have worn out.
