Key ring LED

I can't remember where I saw the thread , but someone was explaining how to put a LED in there. Basically one lead goes in like normal and one is wired to a ground wire. Does anyone know which lead goes where and if any resistors are needed. I painted the stock bulb blue and it looks kinda lousy.

I just want to mention that you will probably need a 470 ohm resistor because the light there is probably 12 volts.... other than that, i dunno how to connect it

good luck

The place where you insert the key in the ignition right...?? I would just buy some LED license plate blot lights... they already have a resistor wired up, also they're a lot cheaper than RadioShack or it's equals. As for positive and negative... try figuring out which ones the original light had and connect it to those... should be easy. I'm about to do it my self... i just need the time.

Yeah mine doesn't light up anymore, don't know what happened. Is there a place that can fix it cheap, like a local auto shop or something, or is gonna cost too much? I'm thinking of either putting a blue light or really bright white light. What ya guys think?

License plate bulbs? Will they fit inside the housing? Maybe I'm confused about what you're talking about.

juki:

Do you mean the bulb blew out or there's something more seriously wrong?

Doesn't anyone make colored bulbs that size?

They're really LED's inside a bolt made to hold on the license plate and frame. You can take them out of the bolt looking housing... and you will have perfectly good 12v w/ resistor LED's. They come in two packs where I am, for $5.99 at G.I. Joe's. That's a lot cheaper and easier than buying them seperately.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if they'll work in other places.

I don't know if it was a serious problem or just a burnt bulb. I bought my Max with this problem, the light didn't come on. My dad's 96 GXE has a green light, so when I noticed mine didn't light up for the key, I got a little dissapointed. Mine's a 98 SE! Anyways, I was just wondering if there was a cheap fix to this...and if there was any shops around to do it cheap.

Yes they do... so far I've change the security red LED to a different color. Fairly easy.

That's good to hear, tried doing the security light myself, but the led doesn't light the right way. Saw the bolts today made by APC. The guy said they didn't make blue, though.
What about those tirefly leds? Are they the same as the bolts?

Hmmmmm... APC should make blue ones, you could try another store. Tirefly LED's use two 3 volt batteries last time I checked. You could use the LED if you put a resistor on it.
