~Talkin Quality Tires...

What do you feal is the best tire.
If you say Bridgestone Ponteza RE92 im laughing inside.
If you read the Quality Rating On TireRack.com it's Looowww Quality.

The Bridgestone Ponteza Re950 Has High Quality Rating.($153.00)
Also:
The Sumitomo HTR+ 225/45wr 17 Has A Higher Quality Than The Both of these For (99.00) 225/45wr 17

What is a person to do for all season tires.
Is the Bridestone Name worth the extra 53.00 a tire
And WHY DO you guys run Ponteza RE92's ?? the rating is horrible, yet alot of people have recommended these..

suggestions.

I'm a big Toyo fan. I run it on everything, Toyo T1-S on my old Volvo 850 Turbo, Toyo A05 on the Maxima, and Snowprox in the winter. I have yet to run a Toyo that I didn't love. Although, I have been told the firehawk looking model isn't too great. 1-2 years ago, they were by far the best tire dollar for dollar. But since then, their superior performance for a low price has caused most of their lines to go up from $5-35/tire depending on the model.

I use Bridgestone Potenza RE950s and I can really say that they are very good tires. They're a bit loud around 40 mph but it's not really annoying. It makes my car handle better, compared to the previous Yokohama Avid V4s I had.

Before I purchased my tires I went to the tire rack rating of quality tires before purchasing mine and all I can say is that iam very satisfied. I have the Sumitomo HTR+'s, and they are the best all-season tire i've owned. And for the price with not much of a loss of performance you can't go wrong. I love them and with the winter we've been having in Maryland, they have been holding their own. The tread on them don't look half bad as well IMHO. Very smart buy.

Some people have said they are a little loud on the highway. But I can't complain, they sound as loud as my stock 15's. I have 17's (235/45/17).

I have no issues with my 950's being noisy. Great tires, a little on the heavy side though.

My Sumitomo's are extremly sticky on dry surfaces and in the rain and snow they are incredible. They were only $99. If you are on a budget or better yet, if you want a great tire with a decent tread wear rating (350 or 360 i think) you should pick these up, especially if you don't want to go back and forth with switching tires back and forth during the winter and spring months. I would do a poll on the org members about how they feel about their HTR+'s. You already know what people think about them with other vehicles from the Tirerack website.

There is NO absolutely-great all-season tire. It's that simple. You're asking too much of a tire to perform at 100% in 100 degree heat + rain as well as at 0 degrees in the snow. So any all-season tire is a trade off on all sides.

If you've got the extra $$$, then by all means spring for two sets of tires. I'm running BFG KDW's in the summer, spring and early fall which ROCK. But I had the displeasure of trying to coax them home through .5" of slush in an early snowfall. Oh my god.... don't even try it.

Then I'm running the Blizzak LM-22's(i think) on a separate set of alloys I got cheap from Tire Rack... Killer tires for winter and really pretty good in the dry spells of winter too... But nowhere near the grip of the KDW's so it takes awhile to adjust after switching without killing yourself...

Love my Dunlop Sport A2's on My Maxima. My SE-R had nothing but Dunlop SP4000 and SP5000 the entire 10 years I had it. Dunlop has never let me down. Knock on wood, I never had a flat the entire time with Dunlop. None of my spares have ever been used, and I drive on rural country dirt roads and evetything.

It is pure common sense that all season tires trade of in all diections to meet demands of any weather condition. But, for my needs they are worth the convenience of not having to change tires at season's change. The weather cannot be predicted and I would hate to still have summer tires on when I am away from home and have an early snow hit.

Do your research on TireRack and see what you come up with.

Well, I use to think there was no such thing as a excellent all-season ultra high performance tire until I bought my HTR+. I've had a whole slew of tires on my Maxima and the HTR+'s are the best. Prior to my HTR+'s, I had summer only HTR Z tires. Those tires were like glue and when I got the HTR+'s I figured there would be some trade off. There was absolutely none. The turn-in, braking, acceleration, and handling traction was no different with the HTR+ which knocked my socks off. One night, in 35 degree weather, I did three panic stops in a row to test the adhesion of the tires so I could get a feel of when the tires were going to lock up (I don't have ABS). The stops were a 40mph stop, 50mph stop, and 60mph stop. To my amazement, the tires never locked up. They just bite down and brought the car to a stop. The only thing holding my car's braking ability back was the brake fluid which was exhibiting signs of fade from the three stops within seconds of each other. With my HTRZs, I could get the tires to lock up slightly, but nothing severe. As for the snow, the HTR+'s cut thru just fine. Now, if you get significant snow and that doesn't get plowed quickly, then true snow tires are what you need. I've driven thru 4" of snow with no problems.

The HTR+ is by far the best all-season ultra high performance tire on the market for the price. Even M3 owners say there is no discernable difference between the HTR+and their OEM tires. That says a lot about the HTR+, IMO.

I have Potenza RE950s on my stock rims...I really do love them, especially in the rain. They hold really well.

When I upgrade to 17s though I am going to go with the Sumitomo HTR+s for sure.
