Problem with Spoiler, comming loose.

Hey guys. I have a 98 GLE and I have an OEM Stock 4th Gen Spoiler on my car. I guess the owner before me had this added because GLES dont come with a wing. I walked outside today, 4 dagreez outside, and noticed something quite awkward with my wing. The Left Side of the wing where the Flap is POPPED UP. The thing is, I noticed two (Ball and Socket) type of fat black screws that from what I see clips down on these pices for the flap to clip to the trunk. Well, I also noticed, what appears to be double sided tape, that I guess secures it down onto the trunk lid. Now this is tuff to ask anyone who had a wing that came with there car, but for the ppl that added an OEM wing to there car, is there something I can do to get this to clip back in? Middle brackets of the wing are secure and so is the right flap. But the left side popped up and the only thing I can think of is trying to take the wing of and Double side that part again, or take it to the nissan dealer and see what they can do? Any advice would be appreciated because Im MAD upset right now.

PS. Trunk latch isnt working either. I hit the trunk latch button on the driver door, and I hear the clicking and the trunk is not opening. I hit it again, and walked to open the trunk and it wouldnt open. The cable cant be froze up if it clicked right? Jesus, bad day for me today, I need some help from you guys. Thanx

Can't help you with the spoiler, but the trunk may be malfunctioning because of a manual 2-position latch-switch located on the latch assembly attached to the trunk lid. This switch allows you to disable the remote trunk release button. Look for the switch next-to the latch. Move it opposite wherever it is positioned now.

Mine got moved or bumped accidentally somehow & for a couple months I didn't know why my trunk popper wouldn't work. It would only "click," just as you described yours.

Then, I accidentally discovered the lever/switch & flipped it - problem solved!

No prob. Learn from my mistakes. . .please!

If you can post a pic of your spoiler situation, it might help people get a better sense of what's up. Definite bummer - good luck w/ that.

Pull back your trunk lining and see if there's a screw loose or out. I'm guessing the stuff you said looks like double sided tape may be a peice of weaterstripping. If it is in fact double-sided tape, The previous owner probably had the same problem you have and ghetto-rigged it.

Yeah, I have a 98 SE with a stock spoiler, but I had a question. Is it okay if I can jiggle it a little? When I pull on it/move around, it wiggles in its spot, it doesn't come out any though. This isn't loose or nothing is it?

If the spoiler came with the car and wasnt rigged in there by just any old person, it should be perfectly tight. Mine rattled a little when I bought it, but I just ripped back the trunk lining and tightened it. It should be tight, or at least almost tight.

I replaced the LED light in my spoiler last year. To my surprise not only was the LED burnt out but also the bolt holes and bolts that hold down the spoiler where all rusted up. It seems that the weather stripping did not do its job at all. I fixed it the best I could with the new weather stripping that came with the new LED, and I also siliconed around the holes to prevent any future corrosion. So it could be that the bolts are loose or that (hopefully not)they may be rusted.
