Just got a call from aamco... my auto is sick

i have been asking a lot of auto tranny questions lately, mostly regarding the difficulty shifting from 1st to 2nd on my auto (would hit rev limiter before shifting) and 2nd to 3rd (2k rpm jump before grabbing the next gear) the shop called and they found my "clutch" sitting in the tranny pan, and are tearing it down to give me an estimate on a possible rebuild (400 dollars) but I DID request to go in and see the torn down tranny (all the parts laid out) to inspect the damage myself (to avoid the ****-rape of most auto shops) anything i should look for? i can do anything else myself, rebuild a manual tranny, etc. but the autos are just beyond me. also, while its apart, could i have the shop do the VB mod, or can only those (i think) 3 places do it? thanks for any responses... damn auto...

Swap a 5spd or get a high(er) stall TC(torque converter), this has been talked about before, so try a search.
Also, to me $400 doesn't seem bad at all.

fwd, 3000 pounds does not make a fast car. the majority of imports in general are not fast cars... ANYWAYS thats not what i am debating right now-(also the fiero is a 3000 dollar car, and the parts are all WAY cheaper than nissan parts, so i am totally willing to drive it hard, rather than the max)

2600 bucks- the clutch material got into EVERYTHING and destroyed the shift solenoids, bands, and a buncha other stuff, but it gets a 1y warranty. thanks for the "answers" that i got here. and i would gladly say that the fiero would run the majority of the cars on this site, and would most definately outhandle just about anything on this site. BUT its a clunky american car, and the maxima is oh so nice to drive (comfy) and i have no desire to destroy that for minimal gain

The car is hella fast compared to quite a bit of the cars out there. Yeah, it can't compete with the Camaros and the Firebirds, but I am very happy with the power my car has, especially because it's an auto.

mzmtg: 15.1 @ 92 is not fast? stock? thats not much slower than the stock mustangs, and its very much faster than the hondas and acuras.

i call anything between 14.5 and 15.5 just quick..

below 14.6 and above 13.9 is *pretty* quick

and any 13 sec or below car is a car i consider to be fast. call them high requirements, they're my opinion.
