Brakes

I need almost a whole new brake system, I went to a mechanic and this is what I was told. For 2 new calipers, 2 rear rotors, and new hoses, plus labor...580. Is that a rip off or no?

Front or rear calipers? Are you sure the caliper is stuck/bad or is it hanging up in the guide pins? In that case, a relube gets things moving again.

Well, you can do most of the work, if not all of it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. Buy the OEM parts, and make sure to get the upgraded ebrake cables and rear brake shims, as the ones the cars shipped with were upgraded due to service problems with frozen rear brakes.

If you do the work yourself, remember you need a pair of blunt-tipped needl-nose pliers to turn the caliper pistons.
