a couple of days ago i had a a "service engine soon" light come on. this worries me condsidering i have been having high idol problems and a lot of extra smoke coming out of my exhaust (even for it being winter.) well i was just wondering is our "service engine soon" light the same as CEL (check engine light)?? or do we have both. what does the service engine soon light usually mean??

it usually means you have to check the engine... search for how to read the codes off your car and you will know what it means.

 

i searched and couldnt find any instructions. could someone please inform me on how or where i can find out how to pull codes off my ecu

 

Have you put any kind of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank? The light usually has to do with emissions systems. I had put some fuel injector cleaner ( a little too much) in my car and the service engine soon light came on and then went off when I refilled the gas tank.

 

Check the engine, open the hood, make sure it's there, close hood, get in car and drive to mechanic. Or use the Search function to find onfo on how to read ECU codes.
