don't quote me on it..
but I assumed that to test vaccuum you simply pick a spot,
disconnect the hose and test that hose...if it checks out,
go onto the next hose...and so on.
From what you're describing, it would seem that you're looking
for somewhere to "plug in"...and I'm not sure if that's how these
things work.
hope this helps,

If you're doing a vacuum test, the easiest place to tap into is the fuel pressure regulator.
Here's a picture of the FPR, which I tapped to get vacuum to activate my VI.
The FPR is near the knock sensor just down and to the left of the throttle body. Your readings should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 in/Hg of Mercury if everything is ok. You will get less if something is leaking.

That sounds like a good place to start taking vacuum readings.
xHypex says the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
I do know that a mechanic friend of mine once did a fuel system cleanout with a Sun machine and as part of the setup we learned from the Haynes Manual that 22 mm of Mercury would be either a healthy engine or a new engine.
We thought it was pretty cool that my Max with 160,000 mile on it read at 18 mm of Mercury (mm/HG) before the cleanup procedure was ran and 20 mm of Mercury after the test was completed.
This seemed to indicate a nice improvement of about 9 percent increase due to the fuel system cleanup.
We also thought that was interesting since I had always ran Amoco Ultimate since the car was new, and periodically used the Techron Concentrate to clean the fuel injectors.
Finally, We didn't think it was too bad for a car with that kind of mileage since it was so close to the manufacuter's specifications for a new or healthy engine.
We also didn't think we had any vacuum leaks.
