Because of the mods I've made, I compete in STS class. The Maxima is pretty competative; it's heavier than most cars in the class, but has more HP.
Because of the weight distribution (63% front, 37% rear), it has severe understeer when pushed to the limit. Moving the battery to the trunk helps a lot in reducing this. Before I moved the battery, I was running 47 psi in the front tires and 22 psi in the rear and I still got tire rollover.
All you need is a valid driver's license to compete in Solo II. Contact your local SCCA chapter, you should be able to find the closest one at:

Also, check out the novice handbook at:

The autocross files (what to bring, how to set up your car, etc.)

I have the 2000 rule book, if you need any further info, let me know.

Thanks Brubenstein for the forum. I hope they get official approval and it keeps growing.
I started SoloII last year and ran both DSP and STS classes. After 2 runs of melting my tires and slow times I took the Evolution Phase I driving class. That made a big difference - more so than mods.
The Max is really heavy in the corners and box turns. Take your time and anticipate them. My goal this year is to finish in the top 1/3rd of weighted scores each day.
Watchin the taillights on some Dodge Neon's meanwhile...

hey,
what's the evolution phase I driving class? Does the max qualify for the SCCA driving classes or do I have to rent one of their fuill scale race cars?
What are some good classes to take to prepare for the soloII?
Thanks guys!

The Evolution class was developed specificially for Xcross driving. My class was taught right at one of our regular SoloII sites. I know Skip Barber & other courses are rated well too but this was tailored for cone driving.

Max is considered either H stock or STS depending on your mods. http://www.best.com/~mouton/sccasolo...ing_rules.html
