CV axle

My maxima was finally dead today, and it was the starter.
Dealer charged 369$ to change the starter. They also want to
change CV Axle for close to 350$. Is this price normal?
I couldn't hear any click noise at this stage, should I wait till
I can hear the click noise? what will be bad if I just wait? I mean,
since they are going to replace the whole thing anyway?
wuwu....have no money left for this month.
My car is a 96 maxima with 140K on it. The CV boots and Axle should be original.
Thanks for any comments.

369 for a starter

If the Axel Boots have ripped and contamination has entered the CV joint, you need to replace the whole joint.

If the boot is only starting to show signs of ware, cracking but is still intack, you can replace only the boot.

Make sure the dealer isn't trying to sell you a new Axel to take the ez way out. Replacing the boot is more time consuming then just swapping the Axel. The dealer will make more profit by fixing your car that way, but it'll cost YOU more.

Buyer beware....

I am sorry that I posted wrong info.
I checked what dealer said about my CV, they said both sides of CV boots need to be replaced, and that cost me 350$.
Is it a normal price?
Should i just wait till I heared click sound and then replace the whole axle?

Should have changed the starter yourself. Would have only cost $140 or so.

Go to a few local mechanics and get some quotes.
When I had my outer CV boots changed it only cost me $150.

www.raxles.com

It's cheaper to change the whole axle, and you get a warranty for the life of the part. Their customer service is excellent also.

$369 woooo sh!!!!!!!!!!T thats alot of cash you could have got one from autozone for $140 and changed it yourself. The axle thats way too much, under warranty $259 when I got my axle replaced last year.

Yeah, wuwuw.....
However, my wife is driving this car, and I am living in a different city right now ( 1600 miles away from her ! ). I can't DIY without a air ticket. Anyway, it seems this boots stuff need to be done by dealer or local shop again. What is that website? I went there, but couldn't find the price. Do you guys think I should wait and later jsut replace the whole axle?
