just bought a 97

hi all,

i just bought a used 97 maxima (getting it wednesday). it has 86,000 miles on it, and as far as I know, everything is stock. what i'm wondering, is what everyone upgrades / changes you all think should be undertaken first. (i would love to put a y pipe on, but i don't have the money yet).. but seriously, spending a few hundred dollars (hopefully less than five) what would you suggest to get more power and better overall performace. Thanks in advance

willis

just as an aside.. i'm coming from a 92 sho(236,000 miles on it and counting), so hopefully the maxima will keep up .. unfortunately the max is an automatic, but i suppose i can survive.. thanks again

First thing to do is have a mechanic you trust check the struts, dust boots, and CV outer boots. Also, the starter, alternator, probably other stuff..can't think of em..

If those are good..have fun modding..

You have a few hundred dollars - so you CAN afford a Y pipe! Only $160 shipped from budgetexhaust. I have had mine on for 2 months and it's well worth it. Make a home made intake using an APC cone filter.
FSTB for between $12-25 on Ebay, Clear Corners.

Happy modding

i bought my 97 with 80,000. def take it to your mechanic unless u know cars real well and can check it yourself. i went with an intake and y-pipe first. inexpensive and give you some results. have fun, even though its an auto.
