programming remote not working
programming remote not working
i got a remote for my 98se that i ordered off ebay and am having trouble programming it
i get in, lock door, key in and out till lights blink, ignition to ACC, press lock
tried it several times, each time it takes a different number of key in/outs to make clear old codes
is there a certain time length you have to hit/hold lock for cause i varied it up
next guess would be battery, but i dont wanna shell out 5-10 for a battery if im doing something wrong (thats why im posting first)
can i get the battery at a eckard/cvs/food lion?
thanks

First do a search. Then if you can't find anything to help, come back here and write everything you did from before you got into your car until after you got out of your car.
well ive already done a search, and keep finding the same directions from the FAQ
i basically listed everything i did except i forgot to mention i used the key to open the door to get in
then
lock door(with power lock on door), key in and out till lights blink, ignition to ACC, press lock

here are the instructions that came with my keyless off ebay
1.sit in car with doors and windows closed
2.lock doors with power door lock switch on drivers door
3. put in and pull out key from ignition approx 8 times or until the hazards flash
4. when hazards flash put key in ignition and turn to the acc position
5. press lock button on the new remote, lights should flash again.
if you have 2 remots , 1 new and 1 old, or 2 new ones, please continue with steps 6 and 7.
6. press unlock button on drivers door, then lock button on drivers door, lights will flash again
7. press lock button on 2nd new or old remote and lights will flash again
end.
when I did this, i was at step 5 and my lights did NOT flash again put the remote stil worked, and I also didnt do steps 6 and 6 and my old remote still worked.

Dave
I know how you feel
I am having trouble programming 2 used remotes too. They were both off my brothers old 96 maxima that he totalled.
The first time I went through the programming procedure, all of the steps worked like clockwork. The hazards flashed when they were supposed to. The hazards flashed during the step (6) that the new remote gets programmed. But when I tried it out, the remote did not work. And now, my remote that has been working fine does not work.
I tried going through it all again but cannot get step 3 to work. I put the key in and out and the hazards never flash. I don't know what's going on now.

Remote
The reason your old remote doesn't work anymore is because the frequency has now been changed! Start over and after putting key in 6-8 times (when hazards flash), turn key to acc, then unlock & lock doors using DOOR SWITCH, then push the lock button on remote. Also push the lock button on additional remote. Check 'em both. They should now be working. (I programmed both of my remotes today and the printed instructions left off the door switch step, so I had to check another set of instructions.)
