I've been wanting to replace my tail lights with either the red/clears or the Altezza's....first question, which version Altezza would look best on a dark green car? (I have a 97).

Second...I saw some Altezza's on a Honda the other day and I could hardly tell when they were braking in the daylight with the lights on (it was raining). With the lights off I'm sure it would be fine but there doesn't seem to be much difference between the running lights when the lights are on and the brake lights. Would this be how mine would end up? I don't want to get them if they are going to be like that because I don't want people running into the back of me heh.

I'm still waiting on my car to get out of the shop from when a guy ran into it and once it's out I've got clear corners to put on.

Anyway just want opinions on the Altezza's....I'm thinking the carbon ones would look best, what do you all think?

 

Don't ask for personal opinions on this one, it'll start another red/clear VS altezzas battle.

red/clears are more cost efficent, but altezzas give you a more unique look. To decide, look at cardomain pages, there's more than enough .org members with both.

As far as the brightness of your lights, there are a billion threads on this, try searching. You can change to brighter bulbs, or use LEDs. Once again, search, because there is more information in these threads than in all the minds of all the nissan techs combined.


As far as the type of altezza, once again, it's your own personal preference. Although as far as the popular vote seems to go, chrome altezzas look better on lighter cars, while carbon fiber or black chrome look better on darker cars (if i'm wrong here, somone correct me)

altezzas just dont look right on a maxima, only black maximas can play it off with the black chromes, but otherwise, its a big no no

 

or even the gunmetal gen 2 looks good on black max

 

lol, no I'm not comparing the max to hondas...just that these are the only cars I see Altezza's on around this area and I just was comparing the brightness.

Oh and I did a search but it just didn't come up with much of anything I was looking for.

 

I have altezzas. It looked cool at first but then you realize its not for a maxima. A maxima is a sport luxury car. Red/clears are so much more classy but i grew up. Im changing to red clears as soon as I get mine in the mail just my .02 cents hope it helps.

 

I have a altezza gen2 chrome taiilights on my car right now but since somebody reversed into my car and damaged my driver side tail i'm going back to OEM and maybe converting it to red/clears later. I damage my stock ones try to clear it out before.

No prob...dunno why it said that by my name though. The reason I was leaning towards altezza's is because they are legal and the red/clears aren't quite because of that piece of reflector that is gone.

 

Then 5 series BMW's, CL-S, and TL-S are illegal because they have red/clears. As long as you put amber bulbs in them you should be fine.

I would stress not to get the altezzas. It puts you in the same taste catogory as BUB RUB, if you don't know who that is perform a search for BUB RUB or WOO WOOO. I would much rather have tastefull tailights on my car that are similar to a 5 series BMW rather than be associated with low class people who will stick anything on their car to make it look 'unique.' Altezzas, Window Washer Lights and Michael Jackson all look unique, but do they look better?

 

Sorry to break all of your bubbles but Altezza is synonymous with rice.

 

Probably why I see them on all these hondas around here :P But..a lot of people put them on trucks too...some look okay, some don't. I saw some on this old van once though....that was funny....looked so out of place.

 

Well than half the maxima owners here are rice lovers. Because this controversy is split half way. Why state your opinion on red/clears vs. altezzas when his question was which kind of altezzas would look the best on a dark green car?
The answer is carbon fiber altezzas would look the best.
Black chrome altezzas are best with black cars, and chrome are best with white cars.

Don't ask for peoples opinions on taillights because half like it and half don't. Everyone is so worried about looking the slighest bit like a ricer that they stop caring about what they want and follow the crowd.

 

Sup, I have a dark green max too and I have gen1 black chrome altezza on. Personnally, I like them pretty much but be sure to not get standard chrome cause these look awful. I bought my altezza before gen2 got out and that's why I have gen1. If not, I would've buy the gen2 cause I think they look much better. About the brightness: it is true that it's hard to see the braking lights if you have the lights turned on at daylight but why would you have the lights on in daytime. And at night, there is a notable difference between the low and brake lights and we also have the braking light on the spoiler and between the speakers so seeing you braking at any time wouldn't be a prob for the other people.

 

Why would you have lights on during the day? Well depending on where you are driving it's illegal to have them off, there are several strips of highway that require you to run with headlights on during the daylight, and also you should have your headlights on during the day if it's raining. I forgot about the spoiler lights though...

 

Really? Oh well.. we don't have that kind of laws here...

 

Yeah I'm in wonderful CA. Highway's 152 and 12 have sections that require you to turn on your headlights during the day. I'm sure there are other roads like those too, it's mainly because they are mountain roads. Of course there are plenty of people who don't bother turning their lights on but anyway.

high end cars like MB, BMW, and Acura to name a few come with stock red/clears to give it a classy sporty look. Altezzas are more cheesy foe weezy..
most, if not all the top echelon maximas on the .org have red/clears.
i have them and i love them.

 

He's a guy that was inteviewed about this phenomenon in Oakland. There are people up there who are putting whistles into their exhaust pipes so that when they drive it makes this #$*&#$ annoying sound (which is somehow legal) and he described the sound as going "WOOO WOOOOO" and he just thinks it's so cool. He's basically a flipping moron.

I think the problem is that Oakland is too close to Berkely :P

 

those tezzas do look pretty good, but i'l def go with red/clears because 1) they practically cost nothing if you do them yourself and 2) they look more classy

but it's your car and you should do whatever you want, just remember that
