help needed...top speed ?

Hey, is there any proof that a 4th gen Max (5-speed without a limiter, it would have to be) has been CLOCKED ON RADAR at 140 or more? Motor Trend got 142 mph on their '95, anyone have any proof that that was on radar or simply indicated? It was July '95 "Virtual Velocity" story if anyone has it and can check. Any other proof of cars meeting or exceeding their indicated maximum speedometer rating, on RADAR? And I'm talking at least 140 or so here, not those trucks with 90-mph maximums.

I've got a score to settle and help would be appreciated...

I was under the impression that only Some of the 4 gen GXE models had a limiter. correct me if i am wrong but not all 4th gens are restricted.. and the ones that are can only get to 115 then the feul cuts off.. i have a 96 GXE and have only gotten up to 130 with mine

That sure didnt have anything to do with his question....

Anyway, the best way to verify speed on your own is to use a GPS.

Magazines do NOT use the indicated speed on speedometers for their tests, because speedometers can vary from "dead on" to "not even remotely close". German and Honda speedometers are notorious for being very "fast".

Magazines use GPS-based systems, 5th wheels (either physical or optical), or radar based testers.

Anyways, here's something that might be of interest to you...

http://www.autosite.com/new/grabbag/perform/3108.asp

1995 SE Sdn MT Jul-95 3.0 V-6/5M
0-60, s. 6.60
1/4 Mile, s. 15.20
Top Speed, mph 142.00
60-0 Braking, ft. 131.00
Skidpad, g. 0.83
Slalom, mph 65.10
Conditions had to have been EXTREMELY favorable though, because most other mags show about 135-137, which is also what CarTest2000 software estimates using actual dyno plots. So a mag *did* get 142, but it had to be a fluke because these cars just don't have the top-end to get up to those speeds on a daily basis.

I read all the magazine articles I could when I first got my max, went to the public library and read every one of them. That Motor Trend top speed shootout was radar clocked, not indicated.

I've taken my baby up to what looked like 150+, but I've got 277hp, so that doesn't even remotely count.....In the Mojave Desert between Phoenix and LA....

And thank god, it's not on radar!
(And I'm a GXE!)

Had my 99 SE 5 speed up to 142 on GPS. And nop I didn't save the setting. I reset it all the time just in case the po-po want a looksie. It usually has an extraordinary high max top speed.

I've got a stock 99 SE-L 5 speed. I live in Germany and have had it over 145 mph a couple of times. I do over 100 mph everyday on my way home from work.

I've had my 97 SE up to about 220 but had to back off because I have Y rated tires.

We're talking Kilometers per hour, right?

WTF

How are you guys getting to the 145+mph? I have a 95 auto with a few mods and I can only build up to 144/145ish as indicated by my techtom unit. Don't even know how acurate that is. Building up is slow going and it seems to struggle very hard to get there from about 120 on. Either there is some bull____ being flung around here, some people are a little miss guided, or the final drive ratio for the auto and man. are way different.
On second thought my car could just as well suck major azz.
What gives?

Take ii out of Over Drive (Light should be on). This will hold it in 3rd gear until about 125ish or so. When you get close to redline, put it back in OD and you'll hit 140mph. It'll take some time, but you'll get there. But, be careful dude...I suggest not even trying it...just believe it.

daym.. i wish i still lived in germany.. no speed limit on the autobahn..

oh yea.. to get back on the topic i was browsing eBay and i found this picture
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6764
now that speedometer reads over 140 and the tach is only a lil past five thousand, then again that car could have all types of mods on it..

hmm.. autobahn..
