Extra Warranty

Guys, I just got a '99 SE with 50K on it. Should I get extra warranty ? Or am I good some time and this will just be a waste of $ ? Any input on this will be great.

Most, not all, extended warranties on used cars dont cover what used to be covered under the Manufacturers warranty. Silly stuff like a speaker going isnt covered, most extended warranties (as in my case) cover engine and transmission problems. 5YR/100K warranty in my case for only $995...worth every penny...

im gonna get one

I just bought a 97 SE with 87k miles for only $6400. I'm looking for 3rd party extended warranties. I found one at www.click4warranty.com thats 3yr/36,000 miles and $999. It's the best deal I've seen. What are you looking to pay/get?
Anyone else have opinions?

I bought when when I got the car and it goes to 75k or June, whichever I hit first. Right now I am at 71k and I would say it is not worth it. I have had 2 things done since my factory warranty expired. First was the alternator recall which my warranty had nothing to do with and the second was a power steering clamp replacement and PS fluid top-off which was $46. The warranty has a $50 deductable so I had to pay for the repair out of pocket. I would definitely not recommend getting it if you know what you are doing when repairing cars. And if you do then read the fine print to see what is covered and if you have a deductable. Just my 2 cents.

Just to update... after really reading the fine print and lots morwe about the car (history, reliabuility etc..) there is no need for the warranty IMO... the only things that might go wrong/bad are the sensors... and those arent covered... the only things which are is teh engine and the transmission etc... so I will just save the $ and worry about keeping the small things operational... thanx for all the info guys..

my trans control module went recently or so i think ... dealership had the solenoid in the trans fixed ... didnt work... so now they have to keep the car to check the ECM ..... im pretty sure the TCM went because its happend to a few people, but im glad i got the warranty, bc the TCM is like 300 from a junk yard , as to where im getting a new one ... if it is the problem
... good luck with your decision
