Calipers.....and my brake upgrade....
I am in the market for new brakes. Im looking at the stillen rotors and pads. I wanted to know what are a good choice for calipers. I am currently using the stock 15" rims. and also not interested in spending loads of cash on a big brake kit. my maxima is a 96.
and one more question, Are there advantages with slotted over crossed drilled rotors?
Thanks in Advance

If your using stock size rotors and wheels, you can only use the stock calipers.
Cross Drilled and or slotted rotors will use the pad up a bit quicker.
I have the Stillen setup and I absolutely love my brakes. Smooth, quiet, great stopping power.
Excellent brake upgrade for the $$ if your an every day driver.

If you look through fastbrakes.com, you'll find that they offer 11.75" kits for Sentras. This was designed to fit under the Sentra's 15" wheel. If there's enough interest (or enough $$) it could probably be adapted to for the Maxima's 15" wheels. It doesn't say if it's 1 or 2 pistons. They also offer just the new brackets.
Also, fastbrakes has a 12.2" kit using stock calipers with taller rotors and new mounting hardware. You'd need larger wheels. _Probably_ 4th or 5th gen 16" wheels would clear.
Also you could look into their "standard" Maxima 12.2" 4 piston kit, you'd need new wheels. I'd wager that the 5th gen 17" GLE wheels would clear, and possibly 300ZX 16" wheels. (btw, I have one of these kits available for sale).
If you look through precisionbrakes.com you'll find that they offer a 11.75" 2pc kit, but it's relatively expensive.
Precisionbrakes also has a 13" kit available, but you'd need new wheels (17"+) again.
Otherwise, you could look into fabricating a custom 11.75" kit, maybe using Wilwood Dynalite NDL calipers that would fit under the sawblades. I'd contact fastbrakes or precisionbrakes about adapters, and get the rest of the hardware yourself. I guess you could use those calipers on the stock rotors, but you may not gain any additional stopping force without the larger rotor or working with new piston sizes or a different master cylinder.
wrt slotted/cross-drilled rotors, modern conventional wisdom that I've come across leads me to believe that they are both mostly for aesthetic purposes, and that performance pads are the best money spent at the same rotor size.

On the contrary!..An increase of .75" in rotor diameter would product a significant amount of increase in braking ability when used with the same calipers and pads. I want to do the 300ZX brake upgrade eventually, but since my car is used both winter and summer (and I need a different set of tires for each season) I can't justify such an upgrade at the moment. If you were to get 300ZXTT alum. calipers (direct bolt-on) and then get Stillen 300ZX slotted rotors and medium density pads, you could probably shave off 40-50' off your 60-0. This is my plan when I can afford a set of 16" winter rims and tires.

btw, isn't the stock rotor 10.8"?
