Y-pipe information/correction?

Okay was searching the forum trying to obtain information to fix my problem. (Problem being one, or both of my precats are roasted, and 4 02 sensors dead). Anyways, I was trying to confirm that if I purchased a y-pipe, it would solve this problem by eliminating the need for the pre-cats.

However, I was told that the y-pipe would need to connect to the exaust manifold. But in this thread, someone says they bolt on to the header. I'm assuming header and exaust manifold are interchangable, but not 100% sure. Any clarification is appreciated.

Thanks

you have 4 o2 sensors? then you have a cali spec maxima. cali spec maximas on get rid of one precat not both. you will still have one precat to bolt on to.

fed spec maximas you get rid of all pre cats..

one precat is on the header itself, so the other precat on the y pipe is the one that will be eliminated.

The rear cylinder bank, closest to the fire wall.

Friggin Cali Spec....

EDIT:

Forgot to mention, you still need all your o2 sensors working, even with a Y pipe. The pipe doesn't omit them, it relocates them.

Could you tell me where all four sensors are located? Are they all on the pre-cat the comes off the header? If so, I think my cat comming off the header is the one that is horribly damaged. I wish I could show pictures of this. Pictures speak a million words.

Thanks for all the help
