Strut bar Pics

Ok, i finally got enough time to install my strut bar...
the pics are here

http://home.usit.net/~johntom/images/strut/

I need some help, i ripped off the metal bracket as was told to by forum members (my car is gen 4.5) and the brackets went on just fine, my question is:

Tightening the bolts on both the bar itself and the strut bracket to strut,

i am a pc technician, so bare with me.. how do i know how many lbs of torque i use to tighten it? all i have is a tiny ratchet set i got in my stocking one xmas... and about the bolt, how tight do i tighten that as well?

and the lbs... ive seen people saying tighten it anywhere from 30 - 40 lbs, which?

thanks hope the pics help

You need a torque wrench.

i'm assuming that you're using a torque wrench. If not, go out and buy one right now. Not only is it necessary when doing a lot of work on your car, it's a great moneymaker when your friends need to borrow it.

As much as i've read, between 30-40lbs is a good range. according to the haynes manual(10-2) it's between 29-40 ft/lbs.

i think that answered the "and the lbs" question....

i'm not sure what else you're asking.... how tight should the bolts on the bar be? Or how tight the upper mounting nuts should be?

PS: A haynes manual is a good investment too.....it'll pay for itself many times.

The strut bar needs no preload. Just make it the correct size to fit perfectly over the strut tower bolts and snug up the adjusting bolts on the bar itself. Make sure your car is on level ground when you do this.

The 3 strut tower nuts should be torqued to 30 - 40 Ft/Lbs.
In other words, make them nice and SNUG, not super tight and you should be OK.

When do you think happens when the strut towers want to defect inwards during hard cornering?
