4th gen VS 3rd gen

I used to have a 87 maxima auto, my very first car ever. I'm driving a toyota now but want/need to go back to the Maxima. I haven't driven or even been in a 4th gen, a few questions:

Assuming both are stock, which performs better in terms of
handling
speed off the line
maintenance?

If I buy a 3rd gen it would be a 92, if I buy 4th It would be a '95.

SE 5 spd, of course. I just don't like how 4th gens look, but would consider them if the performance is worth it.

Thanks,

MAXIMOSO

ps yes I could research it, but then whats the point of message boards?

I think he's talkin about your sig. You have GT rims for sale so I guess he thinks you have one.

Instead of us b!tching about which is better, why don't YOU go out and test drive both? Then you make the decision and buy whichever one you like better.

i second that....
and performance wise...VE can keep up with the VQ, but the VG will get raped.
i dno't think the VE's even run the same times as VQ's from what i've seen.

maintenance...well you're comparing and old car to and older car...so naturally the older max would have more problems (both being in the same condition).

i don't like the look of 3rd gens, but to each their own.
the 4th gen isn't that great for looks either.
now that i think of it, the 5th gen isn't any better

enuf ranting, get the 4th gen.

well ,

I have Been driving a 90 se for a few years and last sat i got myself a 99gle there are a lot of things i miss about my 3G but I had no idea how much nicer the 4Gs are I like the look of the 3g but the 4g just has so much more to offer and if you want to modd ,its hard enuff to get parts for a nissan anyway but the aftermarket for the 3G is a joke

I have a 95 SE, Auto , and I have to say, the car is incredible. It rides like a dream, and handles great. It's all stock. Also, as far as maintenance goes, I would have to say that the newer car should be better in that category. Although, since I've had mine (about 5 months), I've had to replace a few hoses, upper strut mounts, hood struts (things that hold the hood up), and a power steering pump. My mom's 96 max, on the other hand, has beenw ith us for about 3 years, and the only thing wrong with hers was a bad 02 sensor.

4th Gen

My uncle has a 3rd gen GLE and i have a 4th Gen GLE, his car is quick but the 4th gen is quicker, The VQ demolishes all, By the way GT's are slow

no such thing as 3rd gen GLE...there's GXE and SE. GLE came out w/ 4th gens.

IMO - '97-'99s look WAY better than 95/96. COUGH COUGH (ramius83)
but 4th gens have more power

thanks for the replies.. yeah, I am going to go test drive a few and get first hand experience.

I just love the 3rd gen look.

4-6th gens look like they have hippo-*** backends. Dont like the curves towards the back.. just opinion though, I like the sharper "boxy" look of the older gens.

But im also looking for something that will last me a long time and perform faster/easier to mod.. so I'll probably try out the 4th gen

Pref black, 5spd SE w/ spoiler

Are you sh*tting me!!!! I mean we are all entitled to our own opinion but the 3rd gens look damn good. A lot of people feel that was the best max body style in the past decade (me included).
I have a 91SE and I just bought a 99SE. I do love the 3rd gen, but as was previously mentioned, the aftermarket is somewhat lacking so I am moving up.

Get the 4th gen though, Less maintenance, better aftermarket. Its not builts as solid as the 3rd gens though, the damn 4th gens got rattles (doors, windows, I heard some people roof sounds like galvanized zinc when the rain falls).

I think the 3rd gen has much more character to it's styling, it's more distinctive than the 4th gen. I do however like the looks of a modded 4th gen better than a modded 3rd gen, I think it just looks sleeker. Stock vs Stock it's pretty much a tossup in the looks department.

4th Gen rules. I've always liked the styling. I myself bought a 95 GXE auto . I don't know what's so bad about having an auto. Less work, and more calm while driving.
