Brake Qustion
Brake Qustion
I had my brakes done recently, bled them, and changed the rear brake hoses. Since I bought the car, when u step on the brake, it feels "mushy"...
After the brake job, it was hard and felt great but after two weeks it went back to "mush".
What could be the problem?

Did you just bleed or did you flush the old fluid completely out?
You either have bad brake lines up front or you've still got some air trapped.
Brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbes moisture) and should be replaced every few years. I like to replace it every time I change my pads. It keeps the whole system nice and clean.
The best method for bleeding/flushing your brake fluid is by sucking it at the caliper with a vacuume pump. You can get them at most auto parts stores for about 25 bucks. JC Whitney has a few to choose from as well.

I think changing the brake fluid completely should help as well....another thing that improved my brake feel were the steel lined brake lines
As far as bleeding the brakes, I saw something about the self made kits........search see if u can find something

the others are right...make sure you bleed fresh (new container) fluid through the system...if the mushy feel comes back, a fitting somewhere could be leaking or the seals in the master cylinder could be wearing out. if the car has less than 80-100K on the clock, i wouldn't expect the master cylinder though....unless it was used to deliver mail before you got it.

If the pedal felt fine before the brake change and feels mushy now, it mostly sounds like you still have air in the lines. I would try bleeding them again and see what happens. Also, have you given the pads the "proper break-in" time? If you JUST changed them, give them about a week of regular driving to break in. It just may be the coating on the brakes need to wear off.
