Should I be worried?

I was on the highway coming home when I see a VW Jetta(older model) screwing around with other traffic. I speed up to see what he will do. Right when I get next to him he guns it. While I'm fishing for 3rd gear(stock shifter isn't all that great) I decide to just grab 4th when I really had it in second at around 80mph. I let the clutch out for a second and hear the car scream to about 7,200-7,500rpm. Car runs and sounds fine. Should I be worried? It was only for about a split second, I heard the car rev violently, saw the tach, and stepped on the clutch again. Quick run down of what my car is.

'95 Maxima GXE 5spd. w/178k miles.
Mods: none, this car is factory stock, not even a replacement K&N.

The car has a rev limiter to prevent damage. Assuming you got off it reasonably quickly and dont do it again, youll be fine.

look for leaks from high oil pressure, but if it works ok, then just learn and move on. no check engine light? the main prob that can occur is head crashes, when the pistons are moving faster than the valve lifters release. that is very bad, and you would know if that happened.

Car seems fine, no check engine light, no new noises from the engine. I didn't even get into the throttle when this happened. I let the clutch out to see what rpm I was going to be at and noticed. lol, and I just replaced the water pump today.

rev limiter does nothing if you drop the car in gear at a higher speed than the engine can handle. all it means is that you will not get any fuel when you have a head crash .
