odometers not working, need help!

Ok, I filled up my gas tank this afternoon and then drove home after. Then tonight i went for a drive, and all the gauges were fine and everything, then at a redlight i noticed the mileage, 117515, and the trip odometer said 18. after 10 minutes more of driving it still said the same numbers, so the odometer isnt working anymore. I turned off the engine for a few minutes and then started it again hoping that would fix it, but no. So I dont know if resetting the ECU would do anything, or if i have a short or what happened?!?! Can anyone please give me a little info or some help please, thanks

i want to get it fixed only so i can know my gas mileage ang when to do my oil change, tranny, and all that stuff....it has to be a loose connection because it works and then stops after a mile or too ever now and then

How did I know, is it because I'm a genius? No but, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS!!!!!!!!!!!
That is if you can answer yes to this ?. Did you take the two screws out of the speedo before you put the indiglo's on? If you did remove the screws then very 'carfully' make two small holes in the indiglo material and put the two screws back in. I made mine with an ice pic. Just make sure you go slowley and be patient, this is very tedious work to not mess up the overlay. Also found that a knife didn't work very well.
Leaving the two screws out will allow the gauge to get loose after awhile and the result is a gauge that only works part of the time.

What do you mean by "i originally put those 2 screws back in and today it started working for awhile"? Is this meaning that you put the screws back in before you put the dash back together and the separate statement "it started working for awhile" is just a coinsidence that it worked today. Or it worked today after you put the screws back in, but only for awhile?
I have serious reservations about it being a short and I think it is the gauge itself that is loose. If you put the screws in and it is working intermitnley(msp?) then they may have worked their way loose or you just didn't screw them down enough. The only way to tell is if you take the dash apart agian. I could be wrong, but that is very rare. So prove me wrong, take out the gauge pod and have a look see.

what i meant was, when i installed the gauges i put those 2 screws back in. today the odometer was working, and then it stopped. Tomorrow i am going to take the dash apart and check it out, its just weird how it started all of a sudden like this, oh well. Hopefully i can figure it out.

i dont know if all nissans work the same way.but this exact same thign happend to my G20..there is a cable that connected from the back of the speedometer thing and goes out into the engine compartment and connects to the top part of the tranny. yours is either loose, or some lube or tranny oil or grease may have leaked in and clogged the spinning part. i took mine out, cleaned it and put it back in. worked for another 10k then it blew again. after that i replaced it and it was good as new.. but there was about 15k that i put on the car that never registered!!! ..

hate to tell you this but mine does that to and i have put no gauges in. do a search. i think it is a common thing in maximas well 4th gen anyways. i think it has to do with the gears getting dirty or something like that. i read it on here somwhere.

search is your friend.
