need test pipe install advice

I can't get the fockin' bolts off!! Sat there for a few minutes with the propane torch on the bolt but it wouldn't turn red, and ended up rounding the edges alittle trying to get it off. So then I went and bought MAPP gas and that doesn't seem to do the trick...maybe because it's windy outside, i'm not sure. How long is it supposed to take for these things to start glowing? Am I supposed to try to heat the head or threads or both? (heatshield is blocking the threads on the rear of the cat. convertor, and i already broke the head of a bolt off trying to take one out..argh!) ANYbody have advice BESIDES taking it to an exhaust shop?

Much Thanks,
John

take off teh heat shield, 4 10mm bolts... if you've got it red hot.... it should come off pretty easy... try smacking the bolt a few times... good luck.

Just go up to midas or something, and tell them to loosen the bolts. It will take like 5 mins and cost a few bucks.

I did, they said it'd take 30 minutes just to heat up the bolts and would charge me about a hours worth of labor cause the bolts are so rusted.

Sometimes they just cut them off and put in new bolts. They can usually come off with the torch but it depends. If you are outside in the wind I'd wait for a better day. The bolt show glow a little bit if you are doing it right and the wind isn;t instantly cooling it down. Is it hot to the touch immediately after you hit it with the torch for 4 or5 minutes straight? If not-it aint working.

Take it to a muffler shop and tell em you'll pay em $10 bucks for them to cut the bolts off and put new ones in. That's what I did.
