I need someones opinion on this. 3 months back when i brought my car, I noticed that the car was converted from an GXE to a SE because of the spoiler being added on and an aftermarket sunroof. The disquise didnt go so will do to the fact that the door handles are of metallic color and not matched up with the color of the car (a real SE door handles matches the car color) The spoiler is missing the 3rd brake light with just the plastic braket reamining yet the back deck of my car is the brake light. should i leave the brake light off the spoiler and keep the rear deck light or vice versa. both will look dumb and wont pass inspection.

Really I didnt know you were required by law to have a 3rd brake light, nissan makes a cover for the hole if you remove the interior one.

Things as critical as having 2 third brake lights, or not, I would think are only apparent to maxima fanatics such as us on the .org.

I removed my center mount brake lamp and put the cover ($20 from Nissan)on when I put a spoiler on my GLE.



Note: The 2002 logo I added myself, stock hole cover will not come with this.

I believe a federal law deals with a 3rd brake light on 1986 and newer vehicles. It may just stipulate that the manufacturer provide one, so I'd check on it. Your state law may require one, so check that, too. Call a shop that does inspections and ask them.
As for the hole on your rear shelf, that cover from Nissan is inexpensive and looks good.
