Re: Emergency Brake

So I got this new emerbency brake handle, it is nice it will match my aftermarket shift knobe better. Problem is that it didn't come with a new button. The new handle is black and chrome and my stock button is tan. If I paint it, I don't think the paint would last very long. I want a black or chrome color button. Does anyone have any ideas? I am also looking into buying a stock black button from the dealer.

I called the dealer about buying a stock black button and they said I had to buy the handle as well and wanted $113.80 . That is crazy! So I guess I am painting it, any suggestions on what type of paint to use.

Won't the sharpie just wipe right off the plastic?
I am going to be looking in junkyards after I hae painted the tan button. Plus it is hard to find Maximas in a junkyard, much less one with a black interior. Anymore ideas?

i think there are guys on here who go to the junkyard enough and get parts. keep posting and asking around, i wouldn't know what to search for, but i'm sure there are people who can get you most parts you need from the junkyard cuz i'm sure some of them have seen maxes with black interiors.

goodluck

Grab a phone book and call all the salvage yards and ask them if they hav any maximas or infinitys. they usually keep a record or inventory of the vehicles they have. that way u dont waste your time going to look and if it is just the button any nissan button will probably work, or can be modified to work. check it out.

This button issue had bugged me for a long time. I looked high & low for metal caps that would have the proper inner/outer dia. I've looked at everything in Home Depot in the plumbing section to lipstick case covers (I know, sounds nuts!!).

I ended up ripping off the metal cap from a 30 Amp in-line fuse. It's a big cartridge shape thing. The body is made of cardboard material so it's easy to rip off with needlenose pliers. The cap is made of copper btw so you'll need to prime/paint it. I had the flair out the inside of the cap a bit so that it'll fit over the stock plastic button and it will work. You'll just need a bit of patience.

You can see a pic of mine 1/2 way down this page: http://maxima.cardomain.com/member_p...=200625&page=6
