Hey I'm new to this forum, I just found out about it really. I have a 98 SE totally trimmed out. I haven't added anything extra yet but I'm thinking about it. My question is, what kind of spark plugs would be good for it. I've been running Bosch for the past 2 years and just switched back to the factory NGK Laser Platinum (expensive as hell) The Bosch work fine for a short while before my car starts to misfire every so slightly. I would appreciate any advice....

 

any vehicle/engine that comes stock with NGK won't run well on anything but NGK....period. bosch are the cheapest plugs out there for a reason.

you can go with a copper NGK to save some decent money ($2.50 each) but then change them every 30K instead of every 60K. do a search for "copper plugs NGK" and you should find plenty to read about.

clubplug.net is a pretty decent source.

 

factory to lightly modded car: stay with factory plugs (good for about 60K miles). Iridium IX plugs work well and are cheaper ~$7 each. I'm running those (1 step colder) on my car.

 

Well I guess I did the right thing by going back to NGK. I just put the Bosch in a month ago so the auto shop is taking them back and refunding my money ($25). Thanks for the help. I wish I had found this site before now.

Seriously, everyone on this board recommends either NGK platinums (last longer=cost more) or the NGK coppers (last shorter=cheaper). But it looks like it's NGK no matter what...

 

can you tell me more about the Bosch you had in your car? How were they, did they last the whole 2 years, or are they garbage? I have them waiting to be put in.. my buddy got for me at a discount at pep boys..

I called courtesy nissan today, figured i'd get my plugs while ordering my FSTB. I gave them the part number of BKR5E-11, for NGK copper plugs. This is the part number that has been given by other memebrs for copper NGK plugs. I was told that this was actually an infiniti number, and that all Nissan plug numbers begin with "PFR", which is true, if you check NGK's website. My question is is there a difference between using plugs for infinitis and nissans?

 

I guess I didn't hearabout the NGKs so I bought bosch platinum +4s a year qago and have had zero problems. Maybe I 'm just lucky, or maybe or maybe this is all over hype. BTW I drive extremely hard.

 

yea.. same here.. i have ran my +4's almost a year now and put about 17k miles on them.. no problems yet.. only runs a lil rich but that helps out on WOT, or so i've been told.. oh yea.. i drive somewhat hard..

I have a 98 SE and I first tried the Bosch plus 4's in my car. At first they were fine and I didn't have much of a problem. Maybe it was me but after a year and about 20,000 miles, it seemed that there was a drop-off in performance. After that, tried the regular Bosch Platinums and after about a week, nothing but misfires, so, took them back and got the plat 4's again. Again, samething after a year. The guy at the autopart store advise me that I didn't need the 4's and that the NGK Laser platinums were the best for my car. So me, being hard headed got the plus 2's. Big mistake, misfires again. I called the dealer and they advised me to quickly get those Bosch plugs out of my car. So of course I wasn't going to pay almost $15 each at the dealer, so I got them for $9.85 at O'Reily Auto. Popped them in and she's been purring like a kitten. So the moral of this story is...Go NGK and save yourself the problems....

 

Oh, one other thing, someone else already mentioned this. The Bosch made my car burn extremly rich.

 

i switched to ngk coppers a few days ago.
i was getting some misfire before this, but it went away upon changing the plugs.
overall im happy with them performance and cost wise.

Inifiniti = upmarket Nissan. The I30 has the same exact engine as the Maxima, plus a whole lot of other stuff, like doors, interior parts etc. Hope this answers your question
