96 Max Tranny takes a crap....

I know I saw the FAQ and that didnt help out much but a bunch of people flaming back and forth. The Maxima is my mom's car and she doesnt beat/race her car. The car has 87k on it. So does the tranny have a factory defect on it if so what year should I go with?? I dont know **** about Maximas so dont flame me thanks. Basically the car wont go into 2nd,5th. But then You can get it into first when you start the car in first. It grinds when you try to get it into gear. Anybody with the same year have these problems?? Man this sux ****. We checked the shift linkage and its fine. Only thing I can think of is the syncros are ****ed. Any help is appreciated

Is the clutch fluid low? How about the tranny fluid?

The big problem with these trannys is the differential bearings like to take a crap cause they were improprly adjusted for at the factory. Many many people have this problem here.

It wouldnt surprise me one bit you're having trouble with your 5 speed, even with your mom driving.

Update

Tranny is fine. A spring on the clutch was loose and turning with the flywheel. We got it machined shopped and a new clutch. Maxi is rollin once again

Thanks for the update. It's great to hear the outcome of stuff
that happens to our cars.
