What kind of brake pads are the best?

I have a 1996 maxima with horrible squeeling from the brakes. I am going to assume that i need new pads and resurfaced rotors. I am wondering what the consensus is on brake pads. Is it worth me buying new rotors and pads from brembo? I saw a kit for 259 for the front. and i am going to need front and rear. Let me know. I think the problem may be related to calipers. If anyone could describe to me how these little buggers are messing with my ride it would appreciated. Repair prices would be great as well.

Good pads, proper shims and a clean install is what gives you quite brakes. Replace your rotors only if you have to.

Raybestos (sp?) Quite Stops are excellent pads, they come with shims.

There are others to chose from as well. A quick search on this site should come up with quite a few reviews of different brake setups.

I just installed brembos and axxis ultimates on all four corners. I love the stopping power and the deal on .org was great.

Porterfields...hands down the best. But they do tend to be twice as expensive as the next best pads.

I have Stillen cross drilled rotors (not much more expensive than most rotors, but look better) with Nissan OEM pads. Brakes are smooth, powerful, quiet, and dusting is reasonable. I think the Nissan pads are underrated on this board. Stay away from the high performance pads unless you race your car often.

Do you have the R4 S? Have you used them on a track? How much did you pay for them? I was quoted 127 for 4 pads(fronts and rears) + shipping. Do they squeal much? Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

I do have R4S on my 98se max, they are the best hand down, you'll be amazed for the first bite. I got them around $130. Try it and you will never go back although they tend to dust a little bit more than oem.

I have installed 2 sets of Raybestos Quiet Stops with absolutely no problems on either car (97 SE and 97 I30). Very quiet and only about 40% of dust you get with OEMs. You can buy them at Pep Boys, fronts are $56 and the rears are $46 dollars. They come with self adhesive shims and high temp grease. Just saw a post where Porterfields are $130, man that is a lot for pads. If you need rotors NOPI has the lowest price I've seen on Brembos WWW.NOPI.COM By buying rotors from NOPI and pads from Pep Boys you are looking at less than $300 to do all 4 wheels. Hope this helps
