Axle tranny seal leak - help!

I just got done installing a new stock clutch with new axle to tranny seals and outer cv boots. When I refilled the tranny with redline MT-90, I was horrified at the sight of a leak coming from the passenger side axle seal. I checked the seal and axle itself and both seem to be ok and the axle looks seated properly. The leak is more than a drip and looks like it is coming from the center where the shaft enter it. I had no leaks before this job so I am wondering what the heck happened. I plan on trying the easy route which is getting another new seal and installing, but I have a feeling its not going to be that easy. Any ideas on how I can check for bigger problems like bearing/diff failures? Any other comments on why this would happen? The driver side axle seal is not leaking at all. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it leaked immediately after putting a new seal in chances are you damaged the seal by accident when you installed it.

Back from the dead, This EXACT same thing happend to me 2 days ago. I installed my tranny while only replacing the passenger side seal... I was filling my tranny up with MT-90, and back out it came onto the floor... Turns out I had put in an axle seal for a DRIVER side instead of the passenger side. The driver side seal is about 2mm larger inner diameter.

Unbelievable! I had the same problem, the dealer gave me two driver side seals. The unbelievable part of it is that I was just thinking about that whole situation this morning, even though it happened over 2 years ago.

Wow, pretty wierd... I could have sworn I told the parts guy PASSENGER side seal... But luckely my friend had a new passenger side seal for his 5spd swap. He gave it to me, so I will get him a new one when we start his swap.

I had a big oil leak after doing my clutch last month - dribbling out the driver side seal (which had been replaced). Turns out the circlip holding the axle didn't have it locked into place properly. Once the axle was seated, the seal worked fine.
