1996 Bose Stereo

Heres the deal, I love my max, but one problem is driving me crazy. The stock 1996 Bose Stereo. I love it, and it sounds great, but I guess from its old age and lack of technology compared to todays stereos, it hates to play CDs that are even barely scratched and also skipps badly when I hit small bumps. It also does not like to play burned cds. I don't have the money to buy a new system so I was planning on upgrading to a newer bose head unit (used). Say off a 97-98. Will the newer units be more tollerable than the old? Would this solve any of my problems? What is the price range for a used unit? Also, one of my rear speekers is blown. I figured I would buy used (unblown) rear speekers untill I upgrade the whole system. Anyone have any? Whats a fair price on them? I would have done a search to see if there is any related information, but the function was dissabled by the administrator or whatever. Any information or imput would be great. Thanx for the help.
