Taillight Goo

Hey guys, I am trying to take out the taillights to make red/clears, but I can't get the taillight off. The goo is just too strong.... My hand hurts from trying to push it. I even got in the trunk and tried to push outwards. It didn't budge at all. Any suggestions? I bet this has already been covered, but the search button is disabled.

if you have heat gun, get in the trunk and try to heat it up. not too much heat just go around couple times. then give it push.

push harder

if it's cold where you are, it will definately be even more of a ***** to push them out..

just push harder.. and evenly on all corners..
don't ever attempt to pry them from the outside.. you will likely crack something
they are extremely fragile..

you took off the 4 nuts from the back of the taillight right? Not to make you sound dumb, but we gotta check all possibilities

haha.. i did take the nuts off. It is like 35 degrees here... so the goo was really solid. The heat gun thing worked perfectly. My red clears turned out good..... except i cracked a part of the clear plastic (oops), but I epoxy'd it back... so it looks almost as good as new.

I had the same oops and epoxied too.

If you have goo to clean off your car, "Goo Gone" works well.

Use a blow dryer around the edges of your taillights. The goo is stick but not like super-glue... you should be fine if you take your time...

Wow, I would have NEVER pushed.... that would hurt like a ****.

I helped a buddy do his this weekend and all we did was use a heat gun and pull from the outside. Unless I was pulling like a crazy psycho, I might have cracked something. Pulling them off the car is a cake walk as long as you've got a good heat gun (especially in the cold) to pull it out.

The Push/Pull method worked for me, you can push while another person pulls on the other side. It came out easy when I did it that way.

I did it sorta "bear hug" style. So one hand pushes against the light from the inside while the other hand is braced against the outside frame of the car. Both my lights popped out really easily that way.
