bad struts

I am looking for some struts for my car because the other day I had a total of 5 people in there and it felt like I was driving a 1987 Jeep Wagoner. My 95 GLE has 140,000+ miles on it so I know they have to be replaced but I want struts that are going to be as soft as the stock ones, but I don't want to pay the stock price for them. Does anyone know any sites that sell stock struts or struts that feel like you are in a Cadillac? Thanks

Try a search. I think the KYB GR2s are a stock replacement

Well, if your struts are worn or blown, your ride should be very soft...bouncy, but soft. If you go with new struts and shocks, it'll firm up your ride a little bit, but it's a good thing. Tokico makes a good shock with stock springs. KYB makes an OEM replacement ,called GR-2, that is very affordable. KYB GR-2's should run you under $300. With the cash you save on the struts, I suggest you check out Motivational.net. They have custom rear mounts that gives you an extra inch and a half of suspension travel. It'll make the rear much softer and flatter on the turns. Where are you located? I've done a lot of suspension work, and I also know a bunch of great places with great prices.

You cannot use those mounts with stock springs. Not only is there not need to, but you will lose an inch of travel in the opposite direction. In other words, if you hit a large hole, you will fully extend the rear shock piston thus limiting the amount of downward travel the wheel has.

Not a good idea, you'll damage the rear shocks.

Those mounts are designed to give you back lost suspension travel when you lower your car. They do not work the other way around.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure they work with stock springs as well. I have a set of shortened body Koni/Neuspeed, that make an extra inch of suspension travel on my Accord...Tanabe also makes a set of shortened struts for stock springs as well. Keep in mind that the rear stock springs are compressed and has the shock compressed at rest with the mount on. I'm not positive about this. but I think someone should ask Mike at Motivational Engineering.

From my experience, I'd never lower a car without getting some suspension travel back.

If you are looking for like OEM ride, you better get the OEM struts, no more, if you are looking for OEM like ride don't use for any reason KYB GR2 struts, I made that mistake and finally changed the brand new KYB GR2 for the OEM ones, OEM struts are $113.00 each one at the dealership, and KYB GR2 are like $73.00 each, but the $40 additional I paid is very reasonable for the results I have obtained. Don't hesitate and get the OEM ones, you better use as much OEM suspension parts as your pocket can afford, otherwise you'll be spending money like crazy !
