5spd swap into a 1997 Model ECU question -

I know Ramius put the 5spd ECU from a 1996 model into his 1996 SE and that's all he had to do to get rid of the CEL after his 5spd conversion.

Has anyone actually tried this with a 97?

I'd love to be able to just buy a 1997 5-spd ECU on car-part and never have the CEL, but I'm not sure it will work.

I am VERY sure that with any 5-speed conversion, and with the replacement of the ECU, you will NOT get a CEL. I am very sure of this Ian, almost willing to bet you....

mtrai was talling me that you have to replace the wiring harness too however......

You didn't replace your wiring harness on your 96, so I'm checking on 97....

I hope I lose that bet.

Ramius - Could you tell me how to know what month the ECU is? Is it printed on it?

(On car-part they have 11/96, 12/96, and 6/97 - I expect I need to match this?)

Well, that is being VERY specific. However, I did follow those months and all according to when my car was built. Go to www.car-part.com . Click on your year, Nissan Maxima 82+, and click on Engine computer or something like that.

It will then bring you to another screen, where it will ask if your car is a GXE, SE, GLE, 5-speed ot auto, etc etc etc, and it will ask what month your car was produced. Just follow all that and see the results. BTW, I got my ECU for 110.00 shipped.....
