Lifetime of VQ?
Anybody know the average lifetime of the VQ motor? Also how much HP is lost with a VQ thats at 100K Miles compared to stock? Im trying to see how much of a benefit i get speding money and dropping in a 99 VQ motor, or maybe even do a little hood mod so the 2000-1 VQ could fit....

I believe Nealoc187 has over 140K on his GXE and he's currently the quickest NA 4th gen.
I've dynoed my car at 50K miles, 70K miles, 80K miles, and 90K miles plus I've been running at the track on regular basis for 3 years. I've seen nothing that suggests my car is loosing power. It keeps making more power and only gets faster. I have 94K miles and it runs like a top.
As long as you maintain the engine and don't constantly abuse it, you should be fine for 200K. When you SC, turbo, or add nitrous, you're putting the engine under a lot more stress. Even if you run a "safe" forced induction setup, you still can't get away from the fact that you're putting a ton more stress on the piston rings, piston rods, and tranny.

The VQ has been one of Ward's ten best engines since the first year it was released, and for a reason. I've got 163,000 miles on mine as well, and I'm bone stock...and she still runs smooth and strong. Just maintain it well and keep it clean...and don't run her too hard all the time, revs kill an engine!

VQ's are built to last a lifetime... why else would Ward's Auto call it 10-best for the 9th year in a row? (tell me any BMW or even a GM engine that has ever done what the VQ can - win 10-best for 9 consecutive years??)
This is one of many reasons why I like Max's so much... the VQ

I have a 95 with 180,000 miles on it. I have UDP, MEVI, intake, cat-back and y-pipe. My car just get's stronger and stronger. I didn't even start modding it until I bought it 3 1/2 years ago with 103,000 miles on it. I say mod away.....

Ok, someone with a negative note.
My engine lasted 143646 miles. Not its fault though, apparently the "timing chain slipped" according to the mechanic. It's actually sitting in my garage right now, and I don't see any problems with it... *$%*(@#(!! mechanic! I dropped in a 98 in there, and they claimed they spent an hour changing it from obd1 to 2 (I had a 95). In any case, it ran really well before this mishap, never leaked oil or anything, and honeslty I kind of abused it. The new one has 45k on it and will easily last me another 150. I don't plan on abusing it.

Yeah, I got a 98 engine with 45k miles on it. The engine cost $550, and the install cost $1200.
