HELP! Taking apart clearance lights, how?

I need to take apart my clearance lights (the ones next to the headlights) to paint them AE style. I need to know how to safely take the lens cover off to get to the chrome. I would try to use a heat gun but I am worried about melting the rubber that surrounds the clearance lights

Thanks for your help!

Dan

Throw them in the oven on a towel for about 10 minutes on 250 to 300. When you take them out, the lense should come off rather easily.
