life on stock Y-pipe

life on stock Y-pipe

what is the life span of a 97 se Y-pipe.

do i need to purchase a aftermarket muffler if i purchase a aftermarket y-pipe? thanks.

Don't know the answer to the first question. I would think until it rusts or something of that nature though.

No, you don NEED to purchase an aftermarket muffler if you get an aftermarket Y pipe. It depends on what you are going for though. If you want to keep it relatively quiet then keep the factory exhaust, If you want more of a deep exhaust tone then get and exhaust, cat-back or otherwise. They (exhaust) don't add too much HP so its more for the looks than anything else

It has 2 pre-cats in it so probably the same life as a cat. Corrosion would be less of a factor since much of the pipe isn;t in direct contact with the elements like teh cat is.
