How to keep hood up...

Will the hood ever stay up? It smashed down once already, other than using a stick... Will replacing those shocks keep the hood up?

Thanks!

open your hood and clamp a vise grip on the hood lift.

Woo! Good idea! Rubberized clamp or vise grip will hold it .. hmm.. hmm, but still, hopefully it won't damage or wear the hood lift.

You can just get new pistons on each side of the hood that keeps it up. There like 20 bucks at autozone.

Aren't they already damaged if you hood isn't staying up? I replaced my struts with the Autozone ones and haven't had a problem since. Do not buy the OEM struts as they are $$$$$.

True. Don't have an Autozone here in Vancouver, B.C. (Canada). I'll check the local parts stores here and see what I can find. Hmm, what brand are the Autozone ones? ... 'Autozone' brand?

well the hood stays (struts) on my 1995 are all but useless at this point. the vicegrip method is all i can do for now so i'll be going to autozone for replacements as suggested.

A stick behind the passenger side relay box works for me.

you could spend $ on new ones but id put it else where.
I keep this custom triangular rock (its orangesh colored) under my seat and wedge it under the hood when i need to get in there. people are always impressed w/ my rock too!!

I use a small hose clamp on the shaft. I raise the hood and tighten it. When I'm done, I loosen it and leave it on there.
