Hi. I just got a used 1996 maxima, and the rear power window doesn't work. I was just driving it today, and all of the sudden the rear window goes down. I tried to pull it up. I can hear the motor working, but the window just hangs there. I had to pull it up myself and tape it to keep it shut for now.
What could be the problem, and how can I fix it? Please explain in very easy terms, as I am not too automotively inclined.

Does either switch work the window at all? If not it,s probably the power window regulator which is located in the door of the window that does not work. I,m unsure of what it looks like but it has a connector with 2 wires on it. If that regulator is good then you have either a short in the motor or in your switches.

All the other windows work just fine. I can hear the window motor turning when I press the button. Both up and down. But it's as if it's disconnected from the window, because nothing happens. The window just hangs there and can be moved by pulling it up or pushing down.

It,s probably not on track or it,s broke which of course requires removing interior door trim to see what,s up. Sounds like it,s electrically sound though.

Where can I get a complete book about the Maxima that tells how to do this stuff?

Since in your first post you mention that you are not mechanically inclined I wouldn,t suggest getting the Factory Service Manual since it runs around 90 to 100 dollars and you may not get much use out of it. I understand the Haynes manual is a good one to get though and I think they go for about 15 dollars. It probably has that information in there plus alot of other things you would need to know.

Thanks.
I think factory manual would be an overkill, since I am obviously not going to try and fix complicated problems myself.
I am going to a autoparts store and see if they have those Haynes manuals.
