great explanation. very well said.
Cutting coils is so ghetto, heating is the way to go
jk...
If he's gunna go through the trouble / cost of taking the suspension appart he might as well spend like 150$ on some Sprints. Tell him to wave goodbye to his struts though if he doesnt go aftermarket.

Hmm, I know a lot of people cut one coil on each spring in the rear to even out the drop, with sprints.. but he really should invest in coilovers if he wants to go that low. Unless he's running an improper tire sidewall height, his wheels are going to end up tucked if he drops any further, which imo isn't a good look for maximas.
OK, so it looks like the response to this question isn't so much that he shouldn't cut the coils, but rather if he cuts his coils the stock struts will blow out. But that's the same issue when you put manufactured lowering springs on without upgraded struts.
Let's assume he puts new struts with the cut coils (assuming a 1-2 inch drop). What is wrong with cutting the springs?
PS- I'm not trying to be a wise guy, I've actually been considering doing a drop this way too.

Eh.. i say cut um. ALTHOUGH if you have stock struts dont cut them. I have mine cut (2 Coils) for a week and within that week my struts blew. Unless you have kyb's dont bother cutting the springs or heating them. I have agx's and with the cut sprints on the right setting the ride is great i dont bounce at all it's nice and smooth. Just my 02 cents . Brian

I am riding on one front coil cut off on my intrax. I have cut lots of aftermarket springs no complaints from anyone yet.
I have no alignment problems, it rides just fine. If you hit a pothole just slow down <----thats just plain common sense if your lowered. Do not cut stock coils it will ride like straight garbage. If you dont have good shocks then they will blow.
