Transmission Problem??

I have a 1995 Maxima (AT) the gear shift will not go in to park. I can move the gear shift to reverse, neutral, drive, drive1, or drive2 it will work. However if I try to put it in park it doesn't go. Any help I will appreciate it.

I think there is a ball and spring in the valve body that may have failed. If the ball broke up or the spring failed, that could be why your not able to get into park. You'll need to drop the valve body to get at it.

This could be a very easy fix, don't let a shop tell you that your tranny needs to be rebuilt.

Also, I had the same problem in the snow, you should try cleaning out all the gunk underneath the shifter. Did you recently drop any liquid which could have slipped inside and causing the car not to go in Park? How do you turn off and start your car? Don't you have to be in Park to start the car? Correct me I'm wrong.

AT shift problem ??

No, I can start the car in neutral and drive it normally (I drove it to work this morning), but when I stop and try to put it in park it does go into park now I can't remove the key from the ignition. I know the dealer will say the transmission is gone and want $$$$ to fix it. Any Ideas ??
