I hope I did not mess up my car (long)

Hey all,
I just cleaned my throttle body for the first time. I am newbie. I downloaded and printed the instuctions from motorvate.ca. Now, I disconnected all the hoses, the mass air flow sensor and the other connection, whcih is held in by a metal plate, and undid the clips fromn the air box, there was still this thin hose that was connected to the slender rectangular box closest to the throttle body. I could not undo it and i feared I would tear it if I forced it off. So, I moved the main hose out of the way and it gave me some access to the throttle body, enough to spray the 3m throttle body cleaner inside. I sprayed and wiped as best I could and got a very dirty towel in return . I opened the throttle fully and sprayed in there as well. I was unable to get behind the plate with the towel, but cleaned the plate up front and the top part of the plate when it was open. I wiped, resprayed and repeated, I then put everything back together, crossd my fingers and hoped it would not blow up. The car had a hard time turning over and took two times to start. A little bit of black smoke came out of the tailpipe and then it turned white. I took the car out for a spirited drive. I did not really feel a differnce excpet maybe a slight placebo effect. I pulled back into the garage and shut her off. I then started her again with no problems. The CEL did not come on, which I guess is a good sign. Is my car okay? And also, how do you take that thin little hose off so you can take the whole assembly off to get full access to the throttle body? Sorry for the long post.

So, whatever little cleaning I did manage to do was beneficial, right?
