Get them on quick. It'll put a smile on your face knowing you no longer need to use your head/clamps/broomstick/prop of your choice to keep the hood up while you check your fluids.

I go those lifts. Within a year they stopped holding. I guess you get what you paid for.

The strong Arm ones from Parts America. And I only opened my hood maybe 10 times during the year.

Damned.. Are you serious? I haven't installed them yet.. Might as well look for newer ones if they don't last even a year.

Hmm, wonder what else is available though that'll fit?

Mine too. I replaced mine about a year and a half ago, and now they are starting to get weak again. I wish there was a stronger version we could fit onto our cars. It is SAD that Nissan designed the hood supports so poorly. People complain that Toyota Camry's come with hood rods, I would LOVE one of those for my car.

I was changing my oil over the weekend and I was throwing away the oily rags in the trash can, when SLAM! I heard the hood fall down and close. I had a flourescent hood light under the hood and that blew out from the falling hood lid.

would the ones from the 2k1-... work? just b/c i could go to my local juckyard, and pick up a pair off a wrecked newer model and they would be 1/2 as cheap and better than those "other" ones would.

Just do what I did, and get $8000 in body work done to the front end. They'll throw in the hood struts for free

IIRC the stock Nissan ones ($60 each) are even worse than the StrongArm ones.

The StrongArm ones are fine on the couple of minivans I've installed them on over the last 4-5 years, though. *shrug*

I should probably get some of those. Recently I've been wedging a maglight in between the bolts on the strut towers and the hood, works pretty well.

Anyone with 99' still have the problem? You know, Nissan should have improved this over the years of the 4th gen. IMO Nissan probably isn't focused too much on improving this part....ever. Just replace your hood lifts at every oil change!!!!

I've had the Strong Arm brand for about a year, in which I opened and closed my hood about 50 times. Still holding strong. At $30 a pair, they are a much better deal than the OEM Nissan ones, which my dealer wanted $90 each for.

Buy them at Napa, so if they fail, they will replace them for free.

hood support

heres a little trick to the those annoying hood supporters.... all u do is bend them outwards.. towards the fenders... just a little.... if it is not good enough to hold up the hood then bend a little more towards the fender... trust me it works great... i did that to my 96 max.... and i was just about ot replace them because they literally didnt work.. till i thought about bending them....

Doesn't the Strong Arm have a Lifetime Guarantee?
