Help me decide, Nitrous or JWT ECU
Help me decide, Nitrous or JWT ECU
Car:
97 Maxima SE auto.
JWT POP with Mid Pipe
Stillen Y-Pipe
VB Mod, Tranny Cooler
Variable Intake (Not installed yet)
I'm torn between nitrous and getting the JWT ECU upgrade. I've already aquired a 96 ECU. I've also aquired the EGT for the nitrous install. So I have some money invested in each option. I'm sure I can sell either pretty easily. The drawback for nitrous is the fact that the bottle needs to be filled and monitored for pressure. Gauges need to be installed also. The JWT ECU will cause a CEL on my 97. I'm not sure what other problems I would have putting the 96 ECU in my 97 car. I'm leaning towards the ECU but I'm still not 100% sure I know all the facts about having the 96 ECU in a 97 car.
I'd like to hear your opinions.

So you're voting for ECU first.

That's a very good point.
Sprinty is right. Your sig is a bit long. I think redmax mentioned this a while ago. It's scary how everyone knows exactly what you have in your car.

It really depends on what YOU want. Do you want to dramatically drop your 1/4 mile times or have more streetable power available all the time. Personally, I don't know what I'd choose in your situation.
After installing my VI I felt like I wasn't using it to its fullest potential, so I wanted to move on. The only catch is that I CAN'T get an ECU, so that made my decision easier

I'm really not sure what I want. ECU is less power and less headache. Except for the CEL. Nitrous has more headache but more power. Sucks to have a choice.
Anyone know if its possible to hook up a switch to the CEL? So it can be turned off and turned back on to read ECU codes?

The only other thing that crosses my mind in the debate is how long you plan on keeping the car. You can bring the nitrous and gauges with you, whereas the ECU would require keeping a 95-97 Maxima.

Yeah, taking the cluster apart to put the bulb back would really suck. I was hoping I could just cut a power wire and hook up a switch to it. I was wondering if its possible at all. I don't know what it looks like back there. I think I can live with that solution.
I'll probably keep the car another 2 years. Unless I get a new job that pays a lot more. Then I wouldn't really care anyways.

I doubt that can be done easily since everything is on the back of the cluster. You could pull the bulb and put it back everytime you wanted to read codes, but that would get old fast.

You should get the NOS first. The JWT ecu will advance your timing. When pushing NOS you want to retard your timing. So get their NOS ECU package.
