As most of you know, the glove compartment light only comes on when you turn on your lights. Is there anyway to rewire it or whatever to make the glove comp. light to be on when the lights are off? Sometime in the day when I try to look for something in my glove compartment, I can't find it because it's dark! Especially, if you parked in some place dark for example.

There is a red/blue wire coming off of your light socket. If you could route that wire to a source that always has 12 volts, you will have light whenever you need it. I looked this up in my factory service manual so I don,t know how easy/hard this is to do.

I'm not trying to be a smarta** but why not just reach over and flip the lights on whenever you need to search for something in the glovebox? It seems like a lot of trouble to rewire the light in there just for that.

Hey, you're right. That's a good idea. I will look into that when I get my car back.

Ravq: yeah, I can just simply flip on the headlights or parking lights to make the glove comp. light to go on and I can easily find something that way. However, doing that everytime is a real hassle. I don't think rewiring is a lot of trouble. I don't know about the rest of the guys, but I love to "tinker" with my car. Doing stuff such as rewiring lights, putting stuff, and fixing stuff for my car is fun to me. I do enjoy it. Even though it doesn't seem like much, but I get a good feeling knowing that I fixed that, or install that myself. I don't know, maybe I'm just being odd.

I don't know about everyone else, but my cigarette lighter turns off when I turn the car off.

I share the same feeling about working on my Max too but I just thought that it would be a lot of work to do that just for a few seconds, maybe minutes spent digging in the glovebox. No hard feelings.

You know you're right too! Yeah, I'm sure it goes off when you turn off your car. However, most of the time when I'm fumbling around for something in my glove comp., the car is running. i.e.when I'm at a traffic light

Not to sound sarcastic but, why dont you just turn on the parking lights for the two seconds your lookin around in the glove box, then shutem off when your done.
OR
Use the arm rest bay to keep stuff in that you need all the time. Alot easier than reaching over and down to the glove box.

way off topic... but: I once had a old chevy celebrity and the battery kept dying on me... turns out the glove compartment light never went off and would drain the battery overnight.. I sold that car for $20 and a large pizza... the guy I sold it to donated it to charity and got a $2K tax write-off

Chevy Celebrity? haha...I used have one, a '88 Celebrity in fact. What a pile of junk. I shouldn't really complain, it was my first car. At least, I had a car at the time. Some of my friends were taking buses.

Battery

If you do this you'd better have a spare battery lying in your trunk cause the one under your hood would die every so often. not to mention a new lightbulb

Don't worry about it. I know you're just stating your opinion. As far as the glove comp. is concern, I have to worry about that later. I first have to get my car up running smooth.
