9004 to 9007 thing I did

In spring 2001 I rewired the headlights in my 99 Sentra from 9004 to 9007. I hit a deer and had to replace both my headlights. I got aftermarket ones and they used the lens to focus the 9004 beam instead of reflectors the OEM ones used. When I got the assemblies in, I scraped off the notches designed for a 9004 bulb. This way, I could put a 9007 in there and turn it sideways so the bulb elements would be horizontal, which is what the housing was designed for. The light spread was amazing with PIAA Super Whites. So much better than stock. Plus you gain 10w on the low beam with 9007's.

I want to do this in my Maxima, but does anyone know if the aftermarket 97-99 housings use the lens to focus the light? Or are all of them look like oem. Any one?
