Question about tranny cooler maintenance

Since nobody answered my question in another thread, I'll just start this one. My question:

you did not post the age of the car or potential age or location of the cooler...

really the hoses and connection points are what matter in the long run unless it appears to be possibly damaged ... good luck

The car is a 1995 SE. However, the cooler was installed in 1997/1998 and it is located near the bottom of the radiator. Would I have to flush it in the future or add anything to it? I'll admit that I had purchased the car with no real knowledge of how the tranny cooler works so any advice would be appreciated.

I can only say just keep it clean from road crap. Make sure there's no leaves of paper covering it.

Like Deezo said, keep it free and clean of junk that may inhibit it's ability to cool the tranny. When you do a scheduled tranny drain or tranny flush every 30k or so, the tranny cooler fluid will be changed. Make sure whoever is refilling the tranny knows there's a cooler so they put in more fluid than the stock amount to compensate for the cooler. Periodically check the hoses and connections to make sure they're not deteriorating, if they are, replace them.

How much extra fluid would I need to put in?

Depends on how big the cooler is. Anyone who's changing your tranny fluid should be able to fill it the right amount. If your draining and filling yourself, after you drain the fluid, replace a little fluid at a time, stop, start the car move the shifter through the gears and then check the tranny fluid level. Repeat till the tranny dipstick shows you have enough fluid. It's probably a good idea to check it after about a day to make sure you don't have too little or too much.
