Yes they work. They are the same as those high priced CAI's from place racing, and cattman. All you need to do is replace the air filter with a K&N, since the ones that comes with the CAI is very small.

so i'd feel the difference? so the only reason why they're cheaper is because they're not name-brand then...

just wondering if i DON'T switch the filter to K&N or some other bigger brand, how will the performance be?

thanks a lot for replying!

You should be able to feel a diffence with this intake. The reason they are cheaper, is because they are not name brand, and they are made by a generic overseas manufaturer. You can use the filter that comes with the CAI but it's really tiny, from what I understand is made for a 4 cyl not a V6.

My friend purchased one of these intakes, and felt a better throttle response when he changed the filter to a K&N.

Did your friend feel a better throttle response before switching to K&N?

Some of the ebay sellers also say that if the filter is cheap it doesnt' trap dust well and is bad for the engine? Are the filters that come with these CAIs that bad or are these statements just ways for the seller to sell their own product?

thanks again!

Yes there was a performance increase switching from stock to the CAI with out the K&N. Then when we changed the filter to a bigger one made by K&N, he and I noticed better throttle response. The reason is because the filter that we replaced it with was larger, and has more surface area thus allowing air to enter the filter easily.

When I looked at filter that came originally with the intake, it looked fine like any other cone filter. But the only reason why my friend decided to change it was because of the size.

Ahaha

If you like the 2" piping you will like them, I think that they are made out of plastic, Thast bad cause the air bounces around in the tube. If you can find one with 3" piping for that much it will be a good deal, other wise just get a Franken CAR

hmm. I'm not sure if they say it's 2 or 3 inch piping... but if it says the material is aluminum for the piping than am i good?

I got my bomz CAI for $65 shipped and it uses 3" pipeing. Now all I have to do is get a K&N filter for it. Some of the ebay intakes are made by Bomz, some are by other comapnies. Some are the place racing (through fenderwell) style, others are the injen (underhood) style, so make sure you are buying what you want.

This site has K&N filters for about $35 with free shipping -- http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/home

Is there any way to tell which style they are? All of the auctions I've seen are for the BOMZ Place Racing-style intakes. Are there Injen-style intakes out there on eBay?

At least one seller has them, I emailed a few sellers about the intakes and one told me 'no cutting are required' (love that ebay grammer). I would just email the seller before you buy to make sure you are getting the right one. Sometimes the picture they use is not even the one for the Max.

Now that I think about it the seller could have just said that because he thought i would be more likly to buy it if I thought I didn't have to cut a hole

One larger K&N filter that fit the 3" pipe on these ebay (Bomz) intakes is part number...

RE-0930

It has a 6" diameter base (end with the hole), it's 6" long, and the other end is 4-5/8" in diameter.

It is in stock, and available from Summit for $38.69 1-800-230-3030

There is also a pre-cleaner available for this filter. This is a 'sock' that fits over the filter to catch the bigger stuff. It has elastic to hold it in place. It is part #22-8033PK but Summit does not sell it... as it's listed as a 'motorcycle' part.

I'll probably end up purchasing one of the cheapies that comes with the small, generic filter, then buy this filter from Summit.

Here is a listing of conical K&N filters, and their measurments. http://www.knfilters.com/universal/univrndtap.htm

Good Luck!
